Ryans Daughter
In 1968 a village was constructed called Kirrary. The Dingle Peninsula and Hollywood became the one !!
David Lean chose this beautiful romantic area to film Ryans Daughter an epic love story with world-renowned actors
like Robert Mitchum,
Sarah Miles, Trevor Howard and John Mills (who won an Oscar for his role).
When building the village local men were picked up in the morning at 7.30 in buses to arrive at the top
of the mountain for 8.30 where they dug in. At 6.30 back on the bus,
homeward bound after another tough day on the hill!!!
During the filming Dingle was flying. The town had a buzz to it.
Cash registers were singing
like never before.
On weekends the cars were bumper to bumper with sightseers from all over the country.
All that remains of the set are a few blocks, but the spectacular panoramic views have not changed !!
