Angling & Boating in Dingle
The cliffs fringing the Dingle Peninsula in Southern Ireland are breathtakingly beautiful and drop into some of the clearest water in Europe. Depths of 30 metres lie within 100 metres of shore and less than half a mile out, the soundings would stretch the line capacity of the largest boat reel.
The sea bed is a jungle of rock and kelp. Fissures create under-water canyons while occasional rock pinnacles reach towards the surface-and the scenery matches the catches.
Golden-flanked double-figure pollack are common, along with voracious ling and conger, while cod and coalfish hunt shoals of whitebait and sandeel.
There are big wrasse too!
Beautifully marked and perfectly camoflagued, fish topping 4lb are common. Sand patches punctuate the rocks holding giant skate, specimen turbot, plaice, and gurnard; while throughout summer, blue shark and sometimes porbeagle, roam within metres of the shore.
